Novita GreenFan F-2
A product from home-grown Singapore brand Novita, the GreenFan F-2 from comes with cordless capability and replaceable battery packs. Instead of bluetooth connectivity, the the fan comes with a traditional remote control. Physical buttons are also available on the base of the fan, along with a LED display.
An important thing to note is that the Novita GreenFan F-2 does NOT come with any battery packs included in the standard package. The rechargable battery pack is only available for purchase separately at $60. Without the battery pack, the fan has to be plugged in to the DC adaptor in order to work, restricting it's use to a traditional corded fan.
APPEARANCE & SETUP
The Novita GreenFan F-2 comes in 2 colour options, white or black. While the black model comes in full black, we were disappointed to see that the white model had a black base and black fan cage face instead of a fully white body.
The fan was easy to assemble with the included tools (screwdriver and allen wrench), and the set up was fuss free. While the Novita GreenFan F-2 came with a traditional remote control and an included CR2025 button cell battery which was appreciated.
Standing at 88cm tall respectively, the fans felt short compared to a traditional standing fan, although it was 7cm shorter than the Xiaomi Fan Pro. While the heights of both fans are too short to be used while standing, the fans were perfect for use while sitting. The fan cage measures 35cm in diameter, identical to the Xiaomi Fan Pro.
FUNCTIONS & USABILITY
The physical controls of the Novita GreenFan F-2 are located at on the base of the fan, along with an LED display and the IR receiver for the remote control.
The Novita GreenFan F-2 comes in 3D oscillation, allowing you to choose to oscillate the fan horizontally, vertically or both at the same time. The horizontal oscillation coverage is impressive, at 160˚, and vertical oscillation coverage of up to 215˚. However, unlike the Xiaomi Fan Pro, you are unable to limit the angle of oscillation.
An unique feature on the Novita GreenFan F-2 that we found useful was the ability to disconnect the centre pole and convert the fan into a 52cm tall compact desktop fan. This greatly increases the use cases for this fan. You can place the fan on a shelf, or even take it on a picnic (assuming you bought the battery pack).
Another interesting feature on the F-2 is the sturdy handle to make it easier to move the fan around. They even magnetised the handle so you can stick the remote control on the handle. Although we fail to see why anyone would want to stick the remote control on the fan. Isn't the entire point of a remote control to, you know, control the device remotely?
A timer function is available, allowing for scheduled turn-off in hourly increments between 1 and 12 hours.
There are three fan modes on the Novita GreenFan F-2, compared to two on the Xiaomi Fan Pro. In addition to the Normal Wind Mode and the Natural Wind Mode, the GreenFan F-2 includes a Sleep Mode.
In the Normal Wind Mode, a consistent airflow is generated, and 26 different wind speeds can be selected. The wind speed at level one measures 1.4 m/s, while the top speed matches the Xiaomi Fan Pro at 4.1 m/s.
In the Natural Wind Mode, the wind speed gradually shifts. Pressing the wind speed button selects the preferred natural wind mode level from 1 to 5. At the level 1 Natural Wind Mode, the wind speed ranges between 1.6 m/s and 2.0 m/s. At level 5, the wind speed ranges between 3.5 and 4.1m/s.
In the Sleep Mode, the fan speed starts off at the same levels 1 to 5 of the Natural Wind Mode, gradually reducing to level 1 for a quieter operation at night.
Surprisingly, Novita decided to restrict the fan speed when the fan is used together with the battery pack. When using the Novita GreenFan F-2, the max speed for the Normal Wind Mode is restricted to 12, while the Natural Wind and Sleep Modes are restricted to level 3. horizontal and vertical oscillation is also disabled while on the battery pack.
The Novita GreenFan F-2 is a well built and feature packed fan. However, the decision to limit the fan speed when used with the battery pack is disappointing. The battery pack is also a pricey optional purchase at $60. Nevertheless, the 3D oscillation does an impressive job of circulating the air in a room, working the naturally cool the room. The ability to remove the centre pole and convert the fan into a desk fan gives it greater flexibility. Together with the optional battery pack, one could even imagine the fan being used outdoors.
The Novita GreenFan F-2 is available from online platforms such as Lazada and Shopee for $169 (without the optional battery pack) at the time of writing.
